Robin Hood’s Bay – Farmland
Revisiting some photos from a trip to Robin Hood’s Bay, North Yorkshire c 2011. This was a popular image that made its way to the Whitby Gazette in 2012. It is an HDR + texture layer and Orton processes render. I was quite into the idea of denaturing this picture because the flat areas of colour seemed to lend themselves to an impressionistic painterly feel. But, there was also a lot of haze in the scene and as I was shooting (at that time) with white balance pre-sets this caused a lot of the colour to be very off – especially greens and blues.
The photo was taken at 10am as I was starting my cycle journey back to Scarborough for the train home. It was a misty cool- ish start to what was to become a very hot day. It was fascinating to watch the farmer trundling around in the tractor – working on a harvest. You don’t see vary many Case tractors with their signature red body work in the UK either, we are mostly green John Deer and blue New Holland country.
