Prestbury Apple Spring

Apple springs eternal – in Prestbury

I really do like apple trees, in fact, I think I prefer them as a harbinger of the springtime to my Cherry trees, though they are also beautiful there is something a little more whimsical and enchanting about an apple tree. This one is in St Peters churchyard in the centre of the village of Prestbury, Cheshire. It also provides a very rich crop of apples in the late summer / autumn. I don’t know which variety they are but they appear to be a large plain green apple.

I grew up in a house with a mini orchard at the bottom of the garden which always provided a rich crop of ancient russet apples with the most exquisite sweet sour flavor. These were put into pies and crumbles and there is nothing better than tasty food made with all natural home-grown or foraged ingredients.
